Welcome to my E-Folio. My name is Ruben Alvarez Jr. I am currently a senior at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, Majoring in Spanish with a license in K-12 Education and ESL and a Linguistics Concentration.
I was born in southwestern Texas, an hour from the Mexican border. My entire life my family has migrated from Texas to Minnesota to work in the fields. Each year, from April to November, we would live in the Red River Valley area - Moorhead, MN; Binford, ND; Grandon, ND; and Ada, MN. At the age of 12, we finally settled in Ada and this is where I have called home ever since.
I attended school in the Ada-Borup school district from sixth grade until graduation. I enjoyed the small school and community, and I was fortunate enough to be able to be involved in many activites: choir, theater, FFA, and track & field.
After graduation I attended Concordia College - Moorhead for one year before transfering to St. Olaf College. This coming year some of my activites and work experiences include: EMSP (Education Minnesota Student Program) officer, gospel choir, and spanish tutor.
My career goal is to be a Spanish and ESL teacher working in the middle school level. I enjoy impacting students' lives and perspectives I enjoy working with ESL students because it is a joy to assist them in maintaining their home culture while adopting a new academic culture.
